About the Crafter

Aaron's father, Dr. Donald Terry Hartman, was a philosophy professor. He taught Aaron to fly fish on the Little Juniata River at age 10 and it became an immediate shared passion. So... In their family there was no clear line between reality and fly fishing.

After earning a degree in Geology from Juniata College in Huntingdon, PA, Aaron moved into the family's farm house outside Petersburg, PA where he presently lives with his wife Tanya and their daughter Makenna. His degree in Geology and love for the outdoors led him into the field of environmental consulting where he became a licensed Professional Geologist involved in groundwater and soil remediation projects and exploration for water supplies.

His passion for fly fishing has continued to grow and now includes guiding for Spruce Creek Outfitters and also led him into the world of bamboo fly rods. Having a bend towards slower action rods growing up due to the ability to present flies more accurately and achieve casting techniques impossible with faster action rods, he immediately fell for bamboo the day he was introduced to them ten years ago.
